Weekend Update with Aidan Mewha...

The senior project has hit a speed bump seeing as how I no longer like my orginal concpet for a script. I figure that I'll get away from it for a few days and go back and see what I want to do with it. I'm also starting another script in the meantime because I had a really good idea today while I was driving all over the world. That's still confidential. I'll let you know when I'm ready what my idea is.

In other news I was offered an internship at WKBN which I am SUPER excited for. I need to sort out my life withtin the next 24 hours and give them a start and kill date. The sooner the better, I say.

This past week in boradcasting there was a lot of cool stuff that I created. We launched our new promo for HALLOWEENIES on titan radio. The caller wins a free hot dog from Gilliland's market. It may not be cooked, but its fresh and delivered with love. It's also free. I'd take it. Mike and I also did some pre-production for our morning show and recorded Mike Wolenski Sings the Hits. Check out our myspace page to hear it.

The show this week went well, seeing as how we had TONS of new stuff. More people contributed packages which always helps tons. I went out to shoot with Mike for his Labirynth package and it was the saddest thing I have ever done. I never knew Sandy and I wasn't even there to share the moment, but to help record it, and the suckers drug me in and made me cry. it was a very sad day. I also went with Nicky Piczszor to help her with her line dancing package. This is the second week in a row Nicky and I have gone out n the field together and she really is a little trooper. She does a good job and learns really fast. She gets an A+ in life from me.

That's all for now. Have a good week!

Why we rock

Mike and I decided to make a myspace page for our morning show A&M in the AM. I'm really excited about it because we link some of our audio clips in there and now we can promote the fact that we have stuff going on! We also created a screenname (AMMornings) so people can IM us with randomness. We're going to make a new promo to talk about it.

I also came up with a new promotion for the radio station, its still top secret for our Halloween week, but I'm hoping that it will come through.

And this is what I do on days that we don't have the County Line. I have no outlet for all of my energy, so I create projects for myself. =)

The senior project

So I am currently writing from Boston where I am brainstorming with my best friend Lindsay on what to write about. She and I have a basic idea for the show pretty mapped out, now all we have to do is start writing it all down.

I figure that my sitcom should be presentable within a month, so I'm just going to work on it and edit it for the next month and then show it to Dr. Mitchell. I'll take her criticism and see how else I can improve it before I get it copywrited. After I get that done, I'm hoping and praying to send it to Tim Kaiser and have a phone meeting with him. However, I was recently informed that he is producing the new show The Class, which limits his time greatly. But I am determined to get this man on the phone, and I will do it. If not, then I'll come up with a backup plan rather quickly. it's what I do.

Speaking of what I want to do, I recieved an e-mail from Mr. Coursen today from WKBN about the part-time position. He said they recently recieved an application from a producer from Erie, and while I am a finalist for the position, I will probably not recieve it. All in all, though, I really think that it was a great learning experience for me to go and meet some professionals. I'm not the least bit discouraged from my search because with every door that closes, another opens, and I'm going to apply for an internship and apply for a part time position down at WTAE. We'll see how that goes. I need to research local companies to see if there is a production company or anything in the area, even if I produced theatre, I think that's an avenue I am going to explore. Then I'm working with different kinds of talent. And more experience the better.

Well that's how that's going. Thats all I've got.

A week in the life...

This week in broadcasting I did a bunch of things-- because without a week full of broadcasting, my life would be mundane and slow. Much like it was over the summer.

Anyway, starting out the week we had our usual County Line meeting to throw some ideas around. I really need to work on the attendance of people to the meeting. I understand that this is a semester where there aren't a lot of packages being thrown out there because no classes really make us, but I remember it being a requirement to at least go to the meeting when I was in BC251.

I did my weekly afternoon radio shift, which I'm still trying to get into the groove with. I've been spoiled by having Mike in the studio with me on Thursdays, so when its just me talking to myself, I get all word-vomity and don't have complete thoughts all the time. For instance, a Creed song was playing and I remembered them going off the deep end whenever someone compared them to Pearl Jam, so whenever the song was over I said: "That was Creed, 'With Arms Wide Open.' But don't go calling them....NOT CREED...because they won't like it." At least I know how to keep rolling and make fun of myself. I'll just have to keep working harder so I can get back into a nice flow with everything.

Mike and I had our morning show on Thursday and it was one of our better shows. We had bad joke Thursday, as we do the first week of every month, and our "Pet Peeve of the Week." This week, I went off about squishy grapes while Mike complained about something irrelevant to my squishy grapes. We're adding a new feature where we will have our pet peeve and now we'll salute something also. Keep an ear out for that this Thursday with its debut.

I produced The County Line this week again. I really really enjoy doing the show, so Thursday are very stressful, but the highlight of my week. The show went really well, with another debut of a new anchor, Megan Alexander, and everyone did a really great job. Our interview segment was a blowout of information with New Wilmington Police Chief, Carmen Piccarrillo and how to keep our kids safe in school. It was actually one of our better shows this year, and hopefully, they can only get better.

I also had a job interview a WKBN this week for a part-time producing position. It was a really good experience for me, so I'm glad I got to do it regardless of if I get the job or not. Gary Coursen, the news director, was a really nice man and it seems like a very friendly environment. I took a writing test, which was conducted on this really neat computer program and it timed out everything that I wrote. I want that program!!

I also put in a resume to a videographer who tapes National Horse shows. He's looking for someone to tape with him, so maybe I can combine my two passions -- horses and broadcasting. How awesome would that be?

And with that, I can say no more. I'm done.

Job Searching

So I've been scowering the internet looking for job sites, but I'm not going to lie...whenever I'm looking for job listings, I type in call letter that I know-dot-com and then look and see if there's anything for me. For instance I frequent the WKBN, WTAE, and KDKA job availability areas to see what they'er looking for. It seems to me that if I want to look for anything outside of that, like in the entertainment industry, I usually have to pay. And let's face it, I'm not willing to pay $40 a month to see what jobs are out there like on tvjobs.com. One thing that I do like about TV jobs is that it has a "top story" topic and it discusses something going on in the news business. Kind of like a helpful hint or lesson, if you will. All in all, though, I'm a poor college student, and I figure that I don't need to shell out the money after I get a job, because then I will be an insider and get first dibs on stuff. It stinks being on the outside trying to get my foot in the door. Luckily, the communications alumni are UBER helpful and always letting us know where there's a job at there place of business. For that, I am totally grateful, and I can only hope that I can help someone out like that one day when I'm important. =)
